Texas Auto Title Transfers & Vehicle Registration

Buying a used car from an individual, selling a delivery van, or gifting a vehicle to a family member? Navigating the paperwork required by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) can be stressful. Errors on a title or a missed deadline can lead to unexpected tax penalties, fines, or delayed ownership.

At Able Multiservices, we take the headache out of the process. We help local Houston families and independent drivers review, complete, and submit their vehicle paperwork correctly. We ensure your title transfer complies completely with Texas state law so you can bypass the confusion and protect your investment.

Why You Must Transfer Your Texas Title Within 30 Days

The state of Texas strictly requires a vehicle title to be officially transferred into the buyer's name within 30 calendar days from the date of sale.

  • For Buyers: If you wait longer than 30 days, the state charges an automatic financial penalty ($25 per month, up to $250), plus potential penalties on your vehicle sales tax.

  • For Sellers: Until the title is legally transferred out of your name, you can still be held legally responsible for the buyer's parking tickets, Harris County toll violations, or even accidents involving the vehicle.

What to Bring to Your Title Transfer Appointment

To ensure a smooth filing with the state county tax office, please bring the following documents to our agency:

  • The Original Vehicle Title: Signed and dated on the back by both the seller and the buyer. The odometer (mileage) reading must be filled out accurately without any erasures or white-out.

  • Texas Title Application (Form 130-U): This is the mandatory state form. The purchase price or gift details must be filled out, and the buyer must provide an original signature.

  • Valid Government ID: A current photo ID (such as a Texas Driver’s License or Passport) for the buyer. The title must match the legal name on the ID.

  • Proof of Texas Auto Insurance: The buyer must provide proof of active liability insurance. (If you don't have insurance set up yet, we can help you find a policy right here in our office before we submit your title paperwork!).

  • State Fees & Tax: Please be prepared for the standard Texas title fee ($28), local registration fees, and the 6.25% motor vehicle sales tax (calculated on the purchase price or the state's standard presumptive value).

Bilingual Community Support: Whether you are registering a personal family car, setting up a commercial delivery truck, or handling an out-of-state title transfer for the first time, we walk you through the Texas DMV requirements step-by-step in your preferred language.
